Most of us do not think about drinking water until we actually HAVE to. There are so many beverage options and temptations like sodas, coffee, teas, iced teas, fruit drinks, fruit flavored water, juices, and more. The absolute TRUTH is NOTHING can replace nor can substitute water but...you guessed it,WATER! Your body is over 75% water. That percentage is higher from birth to childhood.
From puberty on your body's proper hydration level goes down hill from there unless you are one of the elite few that has the proper intake of water as a part of their DAILY REGIMENT. The proper DAILY intake of water for anyone is supposed to be half of your body weight in ounces. For example, if you weigh 150lbs your appropriate daily intake of water is 75 oz. This is about a gallon and another small bottle or so. WHO DOES THAT REALLY? Let's keep it real. Water to your body is like oil to an engine. Hydration provides the "grease" if you will for your body amd all of its wonderful parts to operate smoothly. How does this relate to your hair? Here is how:
We often do not pay attention to whether or not we are dehydrated until we are either thirsty or ashy, right? The average person does not inspect their scalp daily nor weekly unless the inevitable happens your hair begins to break off or you have dandruff (to be covered in our next blog). By that time, your body is really screaming for help. The skin is the largest organ of your body and has hundreds of oil glands to keep your scalp and hair shiny and healthy, with the proper hydration. Poor hydration means no oil and the "engine" locks up, pores are tighter, hairs tries to grow, scalp is twitching trying to secrete oil through the choking pores and what do you have? An itchy, flakky scalp! The oil is being inadequately produced and cannot get through the tightened pores to lubricate the scalp and hair strands to prevent breakage all because you won't drink water. There are hundreds of natural hair products on the market that promote "healthy, shinier" hair and products that promote hair growth. Some are good. Most are gimmicks. There is nothing like your first medicine and that's just plain WATER. So get it in!
